khalifa specialist hospital aerial helipad ras al khaimah

INGADA’s Role: INGADA mapped a MS-Polymer / Hybrid sealant package to the multi-substrate, helipad-rated and clean-zone demands of SKS Hospital: MS-625 (±25 % movement, French A+) for the multi-substrate façade expansion joints, helipad apron perimeter seals and HVAC roof-penetration seals under 50 °C+ desert heat; SR-100 (ASTM C1184 structural silicone) for the green-glass / aluminium curtain-wall structural glazing; MS-50A (Shore A ≥80, anti-mold, chemical-resistant) for the operating-room clean-zone wall-to-floor interfaces, ward sanitary ware and medical-equipment skirts; MS-35 (800 kg/m² instant grab, 3.2 MPa shear) for on-site medical-bed-head equipment fixings, metal trim, signage and door-frame bonding where fast-track handover was critical.

2. Engineering Challenge

Challenge 1 — Desert Climate + Hospital Air-Tightness: ±50 °C Thermal Cycling with Zero Leakage

The hospital stands in open desert. Summer surface temperatures exceed 50 °C, diurnal cycling is extreme, UV is intense, and sand-bearing winds plus the periodic Gulf air mass hit the envelope. Yet the building also has to maintain positive-pressure clean zones for operating theatres, controlled temperature & humidity for patient wards, and 100 % watertightness under sand-driven rain events. Any breach of the envelope means energy contamination of sterile zones — a direct patient-safety risk. Joints therefore need very high movement capability, sand/UV resistance, and proven low-VOC indoor-air behaviour.

Challenge 2 — Two ICAO-Compliant Helipads on a Hospital Roof: Load-Bearing Seal

Two full helipads sit on the main emergency floor for direct VIP / emergency patient transfer. Helipad decks carry significant dynamic load, embed aeronautical markings, navigation lights and international aviation-standard fittings; their perimeters interface with the building envelope and the structural slab, where a single unsealed crack lets rainwater migrate through eight storeys to the basement. The seal around each helipad has to withstand rotor downwash, jet-fuel splash, sand abrasion and continuous thermal cycling — and remain serviceable for the life of the facility.

Challenge 3 — Clean-Room, Anti-Bacterial & Radiation-Shielded Interfaces

Wall-to-floor, wall-to-ceiling, and equipment-penetration seals have to be: anti-mold & low-VOC (indoor air quality), chemical-resistant against hospital disinfectants, anti-bacterial at ward sanitary ware, and flexible enough to absorb differential movement between lead-lined partitions and the main structure — all without harbouring pathogens at the joint.
